FIFA Worldcup 2023: Where Will It Be Held?
2023! That’s less than eight years away. So, where will the FIFA World Cup be held in 2023? The short answer is that no one knows yet, and it won’t be determined until 2022 when the current host country of Qatar’s hosting privileges expire. But what we can do now is guess which countries will make their bid to host the event, and which country has the best chance of landing the honor of hosting this global event. Here are the top five candidates for holding the 2023 World Cup.
Europe
The FIFA world cup was hosted in Russia for the first time in 2k18. The following four years, it will be held in Qatar (2020), Uzbekistan (2021), and China (2022). This leaves only one spot open for the next hosting bid. There are many possible countries who have expressed interest, but so far England, Italy, Portugal and South Africa are some of the most likely contenders. These countries all have good infrastructure and enough stadiums to host at least 8 matches each. All these countries have also hosted a previous world cup game or an international game. They all offer great tourist attractions as well as a favorable climate to host the games in. Countries that don't make this list are Argentina, Brazil, France and India- although they may not even want to host the event again considering how expensive it can be. For now, we'll just have to wait and see which country will win the bid- if any!
Asia
This year's FIFA cup was held in Russia and we are already looking ahead to the next one. For a while, it was unclear where the tournament would be held and there were many bids from different countries, but eventually Qatar won the bidding process. The 2022 FIFA World Cup will be the first time that this country has hosted a world event.
North America
The United States and Canada have recently been awarded the rights to host the FIFA World Cup in 2023. The United States will be hosting 60 of the 80 games, while Canada will host 10 of them. FIFA President Gianni Infantino was quoted as saying, It is an honor for us to bring this event to two countries with such deep sporting roots.
The United States last hosted the game in 1994, where they lost to Brazil in a penalty shootout. Canada has not hosted a game since 1986 when they won their only championship. While some people are excited about this announcement, others are not so sure that it is a good idea.
South America
There are many countries in South America vying to host the FIFA Worldcup 2023. Brazil, Argentina and Colombia have all submitted bids to host the event. Some of the other countries interested in hosting are Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay and Peru. The decision will be made at a FIFA congress in September 2020.
Africa
The FIFA World Cup 2023 will be held in Africa. In fact, South Africa was one of the first countries to announce they would like to host it. This country has successfully hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup and is well on its way to being a top soccer nation. The country also has plenty of experience with hosting major events, as it hosted the 2010 Football Confederations Cup and 2013 Cricket World Cup.
